IT Dept - Day 2

New people that I met for the day -- Chris Mccann, Joshua.  Classmates were Meecha, Larry, Colby, and Jasmine.

--Chris M is rebuilding an image of Windows 7 through Symantec Ghost to be loaded to a computer in another lab on campus with basic pre-installed software.

--Meecha is installing Microsoft Project Professional 2010 with standard settings as well as other software (Microsoft Word, Roxio CD Creator, etc...) to build the image from above.

--I spoke to Christopher S whom I met from my first day at the IT Dept about how was the spyware scan of the Wake-Tech's employee's computer. Christopher S said the spyware was wiped clean. I was following it up with him.

--Chris M will create a custom xml file on the Windows 7 Operating System to install drivers automatically and shut-down the computer afterwards on it's own. (Automated Script).

--Meecha asked Chris M who gets dispatched when a call is placed to the Help-Desk. Chris M said that anyone can take the call and that no help is given to students unless it is a lab computer. Chris M also mentioned that a Work Order is filed for the IT Dept.

--Meecha asked if all the computers in the lab were 64-BIT Windows. Chris M responded  that the reason was for memory. I told Meecha that more memory allows the IT Dept and anyone else to do what they when using the computers. In this case, so the IT Dept can perform their duties and not incur any slowness.

--I saw a document that listed information about the infected computers of viruses and that of the computer users. It lists Name, Infection, Solution, and Cause.

--Chris M is running Windows Update to build up the same image listed at the top, so the image will have the latest updates from Microsoft.

--Watched Joshua put printers on the shelf that came brought in by a dolly cart. Joshua told my other classmate and I to go to lunch.

--Meecha, Colby, and I went with Chris S to Dave Hedrick's Office to fix a printer problem. Chris S checked the configuration of the printer and verified the IP Address that was given to him by Brett back in the IT Dept. Chris S checked the drivers online to download the latest version and installed them. He re-added the printer to the computer and everything was running normal then.

--Went with Gerhard and Colby to dismantle eight computers, and move them to the front of the classroom. The tables were being replaced which were beside the computers.

--Brett gave us a tour of the Help-Desk Offices. The offices are divided into four groups. I recall three of the four groups. Phone Support, IT Dept, and Network. Brett told us that entry-level candidates into IT Dept make $27,400.

--Brett took Meecha and I to an office in the ETB Building to set up a computer for Ms. Hampton.

IT Dept - Day 1

The people I met in the IT Dept were Christopher (Chris), Ship, Fred, Mike, Brett, Gerhard, and Tom.

-- Mia Martinez is using Ghost32 to create a session to transfer image files from one computer to another that had problems with it. The computer that had problems is Mikes Wife's computer who also works at Wake-Tech.

-- Helped Admin "Mike" type the password needed to log-in at windows screen. He kept typing it thinking
he was going into the password box, while doing so. I clicked the mouse on the password box screen.

-- Mike helped fix his Wife's computer speed issue through a Bios setting called "C State Control". When enabled, it causes extreme slowness for the computer when booting. Mike showed Christopher where that setting was located in the Bios.

-- Mia Martinez showed me how to adjust the setting in Ghost32 (Symantec) to allow a transfer of data images from 2 different computers. The computer are all linked together to allow data transfer. Mia went to lunch, so she was teaching me this so that I would do it on my own.

-- Ship used to work for IBM which the company had many contracts to several other companies/businesses/areas. A few of the contracts was the NSA and Ronald Reagan Administration.

-- After Loading/Installing the data image Windows 7 PE (Pro Edition) that was from the cd drive. I gave the name of the computer based on the tag labeled on the DELL computer case. I did the same name change on one system as I do to Mikes Wife's computer with additional settings. Her OS is Windows XP. I did not use the data image for her system. I watched Mike add her computer to the domain and name the computer so that she has access to software called Datatel. Her computer is ready to go back to her. The second computer I unhooked from the wall and put back up on the shelf with the others.

-- Christopher set a Teacher's computer on a domain and verified the updates with Microsoft Windows Update to make sure it was fully updated.

-- Help Ship stack empty DELL boxes (TRASH) outside the IT Dept to be picked up by maintenance.

-- Went with Christopher to the Registrar's Office to help an employee with her computer. She had spyware on her computer. Chris loaded a portable Anti-Spyware on to the employee's computer and updated it. He let it run on the computer to detect the spyware. It took 40 minutes which my shift was already over by then. Christopher taught me a trick of getting to the command prompt if their is a virus on the computer that dissociates the OS from opening EXE's. Basically disables the opening of EXE's on windows computers.
